“We need to revolt”

On September 26, singer Suzane released her third album: Millennium. New chapter in the life of this artist with such touching frankness and sensitivity. We met her.

“This album is cash,” Suzane sums up for us, speaking of Millennium. 13 tracks where the artist candidly evokes the challenges and hopes of his generation, the “Millenials” (born between the beginning of the 80s and the end of the 90s), while speaking in a more personal way than ever.

The generation of change

Millennium describes, among other things, a generation losing meaning and bearings. What are your benchmarks?

“My greatest reference is music. It is my pillar, my reason for getting up in the morning, my GPS in existence. It helps me make sense of what is happening, in a society where it is very complicated to find one’s place and in which we are subject to a lot of injunctions.”

Does this album tell about your own experience, or rather that of others?

“There are a lot of observations on this album, questions that I ask myself, situations that I observe. But ultimately, it’s a very intimate album, with songs like I accuse you Or Virile which talks about my relationship with femininity. Or even with To lifewhich I wrote in one go, on my piano. I wanted to express the fact that life, even if we don’t always understand what it wants from us, is so precious. I cried a lot while writing this title!

I free myself a little in each album. And even more in this one.

In broad daylight expresses the fact that I am finally entering a period of my life where I dare to love without hiding too much. I think that in each album, I free myself a little. And probably even more so in this one.”

Is this an album of hope?

“I like to say that we can’t have hope if there is no despair. There is obviously a little despair. But in the end, it is hope that wins. Because it is human, because it is our instinct for survival. In a future that seems dark, this album is an attempt at light, without embellishing things. I think that my generation draws lessons from the past and tells itself that we must change, by breaking the diktats that have been given to us imposed.”

How do you envisage live?

“I think I thought about live before even thinking about the record. I can’t see myself singing a song if there aren’t people in front! This live, I want it to be a call to the body. That people want to dance, to move, that they itch. I think it will be synonymous with revolt: with titles like I accuse you, In broad daylight, HumanoidsI want to sow the beginnings of revolt. I think we need to revolt right now.”
