The Garden of Plants of the University of Montpellier

The Jardin des Plantes is the oldest flagship of the heritage of the Faculty of Medicine in Montpellier. We come to stroll there in the shade of the Bambouseraie or by the aisles of the English garden, admire the martins greenhouse and its “succulent” plants or dream on the edges of the basin in the lotus in the footsteps of André Gide or Paul Valéry … Remarkable personalities such as Pierre Magnol or Augustin-Pyramus de Candolle have made major conceptual progress in the field of Botanique. To the vegetable collections, outdoors or under glass shelter is added a statuary dedicated to Montpellier naturalists.

The Montpellier Plants Garden obtained in 2022 the “Remarkable Garden” label attributed by the Ministry of Culture which distinguishes gardens and parks, whether public or private, presenting a cultural, aesthetic, historical or botanical interest.
