The concept
Every Wednesday evening, Timeleft invites you to share a meal with 5 other people, all wishing to have a good time and meet new heads. “The application, launched a few months ago in Belgium, is already meeting a great success,” explains Aya Tohme, marketing manager for Europe. The platform is distinguished from classic applications, “by promoting friendly, professional and sometimes even in love. The idea is to strengthen human ties because loneliness can affect both mind and physical. ”
How does it work, in detail?
Just download the application to your phone and create an account. Then you answer a series of questions about your interests, your personality. This information allows the algorithm to associate you with people with similar affinities.

“We also ask for musical tastes or if users consider themselves funny, introverted, extroverted … These are questions that add a unique element to the matching. Criteria such as diet or age are also taken into account to guarantee good experience, ”adds Aya Tohme.
Once the profile is completed, just select Wednesdays of your choice. “On Monday and Tuesday, we start the week at work; From Thursday to Sunday, we devote ourselves to family and friends. Wednesday, 9 a.m., a notification is displayed on our phone. The app is meeting us at 8 p.m., in a restaurant in rue de Flandre in the center of the capital. In addition to the meeting place, some information on other participants: their nationality and their astrological sign.
At 8 p.m., we push the restaurant door, maybe with a slight stage fright. The server, informed of our arrival, guides us to the Timeleft table where 2 people are already waiting for us. “The chosen places are always calm and well rated, to allow serene discussions”. And the discussion starts quickly!

We are now 6 around the table, 4 women and 2 men, all in the same age group. We exchange on our professions, our origins, our history … The conversation is fluid and everyone is quickly integrated. “Many are out of curiosity, to live an unprecedented experience, discover a new restaurant or simply make friends. Others see it as an opportunity to get out of their comfort zone, especially introverted people. The motivations are as diverse as the participants, ”assures us Aya Tohme.
How to break the ice?
To break the ice, the application offers a fairly light game of questions: “What series are you looking at right now?”, “What super-power would you want to have?”… The evening spends at a crazy speed, the discussions are linked and it is quickly the time to pay the bill. After dinner, make way for the party! If you want to extend the evening, Timeleft offers an option: spinning in a bar where all the Timeleft tables of the evening meet, an additional opportunity to meet other participants.
Finally, when everyone has returned home, the application allows you to exchange its contact details: continue with the people you have appreciated or, on the contrary, indicate if you do not want to go further in the conversation. A well-designed application that offers you the opportunity to spend a pleasant evening in good company, and maybe meet your future friends!
