The exhibition Superb invites you to discover the impressive collection of yum chitae papers, and guides you in this popular imaging which tells a modern mythology of orange, from its biological and mythical origin to its globalized trade, including its agriculture, its transport and its consumption. This collection in echo with works of art, documents and other Ephemera collections linked to trade, questions these modest art objects which on the border between work and document make our daily life as a globalized consumer more beautiful!
Loaded with mercantile, emotional or artistic values, printed images more or less discreetly cross our consumer lives by making them more beautiful. Fleeing their ephemeral destiny, some become collectibles.
The silk papers surrounding citrus fruits and whose yum has several thousand specimens, following donations of important institutional and private collections, become works to contemplate in this exhibition. Often anonymous, these lettering, these signs and these images travel and pass borders, beyond their shimmering aesthetics, conveying through Europe and the world, the image of a globalized agrifood industry at the heart of our imagination.
The first part of the exhibition by thematic reconciliations of this popular imaging also makes it possible to enter in more detail on the history, printing and collection of these purposes of protective and attractive silk.
Then is offered a reflection on “the natural environment” of these images that are our daily market exchanges. Our current consumer products are surrounded by images that try to survive them. This popular imaging is nourished by figures, patterns, memories, brands … which sometimes seduce us to collect them. She inspires artists and designers in various ways.
By this artistic look at modest print collections, the exhibition resonates with the permanent installation of Bernard Belluc Presented on the last level of yum and with this art of collections dear to the modest arts.
