Mexican rhapsody of and with Gabrielle Gonzalez

Gabrielle Gonzalez created this play following a series of collaborations (plastic installations and plays) on the Mexican death feast with the Spanish teachers of the Gérard Philipe de Montpellier college. His research was then organized on three axes: scientist (archaeological and anthropological knowledge), philosophical (on otherness, the construction of a collective imagination, the notions of space and time) and symbolic (popular beliefs). Gabrielle Gonzalez called on testimonies from Mexicans, inhabitants of Montpellier, and her research made it possible to give birth to this collective imagination created and disseminated by olmèque art, the creation of Mexican rhapsody. The refined scenography consists of a table covered with a purple fabric where reproductions and models are arranged.

The room Mexican rhapsody

Welcome to the Venta Museum! Your guide is with the family today to celebrate The day of the dead. It is therefore the manager of the archaeological site who will replace him. But, be nice, she is not yet aware! It is in this context that the archaeologist will have to replace the guide at the foot which should have received this group of French -speaking tourists. Time does not play in its favor but it does not lack resources. She quickly recovers her reproductions and models of archaeological furniture and begins to imagine what she could tell them. There is so much to explain but what to start with? His job? What brought him here? The story of its excavations? Of Mexico? Are they ready to hear everything?

This archaeologist will try to put the forms there but do not count on her to kick in touch! It is not its type … Responsible for a excavation site in the Venta archaeological park in Mexico, it first feels a little exceeded by the mass of information that it would like to transmit and sets objectives: first of all demystify!

On this day of celebration, it replaces the facts in their historical context: the history that we know from colonization, and that, supposedly, of the prehispanic era.

It presents ancestral Mesoamerician beliefs. A collective imagination so different from that existing in the West, but no less bloody! She knows that she can count on the open -mindedness of this audience because, after all, he chose to come and see the play and meet otherness.
