More and more brands are offering night and/or day beauty routines from A to Z: toner, serum, eye contour, cream… If this may seem excessive, they may be good!
Indeed, certain assets added together cancel each other out, worse still, they can be dangerous. Be careful when you create your own routines, it is not a question of improvising them.
Products to avoid together
Retinol is an active ingredient found in different products (it improves the appearance of the skin, as well as tints it because it eliminates dead cells). If used with the active AHA (alpha-hydroxy acid), PHA (poly-hydroxy acids) or BHA (beta-hydroxy acid), substances that help exfoliate the skin, it may cause irritation, redness or sensitized skin. We avoid them!
Products that cancel
There is no danger with the following combinations but together the benefits of these assets are zero. We don’t spend our money for nothing and we therefore avoid:
- Retinol and vitamin C
- AHAs, PHAs and BHAs with vitamin C
- BHA with AHA
- Arbutin with AHA
- Arbutin with BHA
We note that vitamin C is an anti-oxidant which improves uneven and dull complexions, fine lines and wrinkles, spots, etc. Arbutin is used to reduce pigment spots.
Beneficial combinations
Conversely, certain product combinations are useful for radiant skin. We favor:
- Retinol and niacinamide
- Niacinamide with vitamin C, AHA, PHA or BHA
- Backuchiol with retinol, niacinamide, vitamin C, AHA or BHA
- Arbutin with niacinamide, retinol or vitamin C
- Hyaluronic acid with retinol, niacinamide, vitamin C, AHA or BHA
We note that niacinamide is effective against skin aging, irritation and inflammation. Backuchiol is a natural anti-wrinkle ingredient. And finally, hyaluronic acid is a hydrating agent par excellence.
