Direction the Belgian coast to decompress for a weekend. Two days to enjoy the joys of the North Sea: stroll along the water and in the dunes, Cuistax, tasting made of waffles and pancakes … a whole program!
We take you to Coxide, the family seaside resort which nestles between La Panne and Nieuport, and whose direct neighbor is none other than Oostduinkerke. Departing from Coxide, it will only take you just over an hour to join it on foot. After having experienced the Cuistax and strolled in the stores of the avenue de la Mer, you are on the way.
4km of walking in the sand
Departing from Coxyde, by the beach, you can easily reach Oostduinkerke. With the wind in the back, it’s always easier, so cross your fingers so that it is the case. To go, you will walk on the beach or follow the MER barefoot. In the distance, you will see the large apartment buildings that signal the start of the Oostduinkerke dike. In a big hour, depending on the weather, you will arrive at your destination.
Oostduinkerke, a mini station
When you arrive, you will notice that Oostduinkerke is much smaller than Coxide but is nonetheless charming. In just a few minutes, you will have made the round trip of the dike. This second walk is an opportunity to make a gourmet stop. You can only recommend you ‘T Zoet Genot and its speculoos ice cream. And if you reach this address at noon, the card is filled with comforting “bistros” dishes.

Back by the dunes, aperitif on arrival
At the end of the Digue de Oostduinkerke (coxide direction), you will see a small path that starts between the dunes and which runs along certain typical apartments of the Belgian coast. Very quickly, this route stops so that you continue in the dunes. These small mountains of sand, on which the Oyat or the Roseau des Sables grow, offer a magnificent spectacle. These long and green plants are very resistant to sea salt and make it possible to “fix” the dunes. Be careful all the same, the edge of these leaves is sometimes cutting. The signal to know that you arrive in Coxyide: the orange hut of the rescuers.
After your snack break in Oostduinkerke, when you return, it is certainly aperitif time! In Coxyide, you can taste delicious cocktails or mocktails at The Seven, all accompanied by a cold meats, cheeses and/or regional products.

Stretch
Little advice: don’t forget to stretch when you get home. Walking in the sand is not a movement that the foot is used to making, you may have many calf aches if you zap “stretching” after this breakaway (about 3 hours in all).
