March 21 is not that the first day of spring, it is above all the World Day of Down’s syndrome. On this occasion, several initiatives are set up to raise awareness, including the operation “mismatched socks”.
It is a symbolic action: for the World Day of Down’s syndrome, we are all invited to put on “solitary” socks in order to raise awareness of Down syndrome, and to support the children and adults who are affected.
Where does the operation come from?
In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed on March 21 “World Day of Down’s syndrome”. In a February 2012 resolution, it invites its Member States as well as civil society to celebrate the day to “raise public awareness of the question”.
The mismatched sock campaign is initiated by the association Down International Syndrome. The NGO makes social networks flood photos of non -twin socks. The message? The mismatched pair, beyond fulfilling its mission, even has a real thing!
Simple and necessary! This Friday, March 21, 2025, you just have to put on different socks, photograph your little ones, and post the cliché on your networks. Remember to mention us (@femmesdau today.be), we will relay your photo to our 12,500 subscribers.
