When the heat sets in, all means are good to lower the temperature. And to gain freshness without going through the air conditioning box, there are some simple techniques.
Is a heat wave announced? In the heart of the summer, unfortunately there is no miracle solution to obtain an interior that does not exceed 20 ° C. However, it is possible to keep as much freshness inside. From the green facade to the choice of materials for living room accessories, just apply some simple tips.
1. Vegetalize the exterior
If you have a green hand, go into the design of a vertical garden. The vegetable wall brings not only an aesthetic touch, but also makes it possible to regulate the temperature thanks to an evapotranspiration process: the plants absorb sunlight to achieve photosynthesis, while rejecting water vapor by their leaves. The installation depends on several factors (orientation, wall design materials, type of plant, etc.) but remains easily achievable. And if you cannot ride a climb on your facade, a small balcony may be enough: multiply the plants into pots like the SansEvierias, Dracaenas, Ficus or Aloès. In addition to being decorative, these varieties also participate in the thermal regulation of their environment.
2. Bet on light tones
As with clothes, some colors absorb and keep heat. This is the case with black, for example. Conversely, others repel it. At the top of the ranking, white (and its shades) is known to reflect light, followed by gray/grège. And if you prefer more lively tones, light blue, yellow or even lilac also work. If you thought you were replacing old frames, repainting the facade or installing blinds, keep in mind that colors can play a role in thermal comfort.
3. Invest in blinds
If your accommodation has no shutters, there are other techniques to keep some freshness. Starting with shutters, which will allow natural light to enter while protecting direct rays. And if you cannot put it, we find in DIY or decoration stores of thermal curtains. Thanks to their lining, they can block external heat and reduce the greenhouse effect caused by the sun that hits the windows.
4. Do not snub the fan
He will probably brew lukewarm air, but it’s always better than suffocating. To bring even more freshness, place a bottle of frozen water in front. If this tip does not really lower the temperature of the house, it will still allow you to breathe better. And why not plan to install a nice model on the ceiling, in anticipation of future summer?
5. Think of water
The tiled or stone floors are thermal drivers. If you have it at home, pass the mop with cold water, ideally at the coolest moments of the day. In contact with lukewarm air, water captures part of the heat and prevails while evaporating. At night, to sleep a little more cool, prepare … a hot water bottle! Fill it with 3/4 fresh water and leave it in the freezer a few hours before slipping it into the bed.
6. Make your laundry
Do you have late laundry? This is an opportunity to launch a machine and dry it … in the middle of the show. Choose a cold water washing cycle and extend the clothes (bonuses if you have sheets) in the room of your choice. When the water retained by the tissues will evaporate into the air, it will absorb ambient heat. Keep in mind to ventilate the room from time to time, otherwise the humidity is climbed.
7. Repending the decor
If you like to change the decoration according to the seasons, here is the dream opportunity. Store the faux fur plaids and the cushion covers in the closet and replace them with lighter materials, such as cotton or linen. Exit also the high hair woolen carpet, ultra-confo but oh so hot: rather bet on a short hair version. Finally, in the bathroom, opt for fine bath sheets.
