Perce-Neige, Crocus, Hellebore and Hazelnut: the first spring flowers invite us to put on our boots and start the first work of the year!
The days extend, but winter has not said its last word: nights can still book strong frosts in March. But apart from these gel periods, treat yourself to some outings in the garden because many tasks become urgent to prepare for spring.
The tools: a little new stroke
Before spring, proceed to the maintenance and review of the equipment:
Remove any traces of rust using a metal brush and coat the paraffin tools.
Coat the wooden sleeves of linseed oil.
Rub the cutting tools (dryers, shears, etc.) with alcohol to burn to remove resin deposits and disinfect them. This will prevent the spread of diseases.
Lubricate the joints of the blades by pouring a few drops of oil.
Disclose the blades by always acting from the inside to the outside.
Also give a good stroke of metals on the blade of the houes, spades and binettes.
Relax the grafts, serpets, blades and knives.
Plantations: on time!
Primity, cyclamens, myosotis or thoughts will flourish in abundance, for some until late in the spring.
February is the latest limit to plant deciduous shrubs and nude root roses or to move subjects already installed in the garden.
Divide the perennials with summer flowering (Phlox, Sedum, Campanule) and the grasses.
Cut plants like Lupine or Delphinium.
Sizes: plant by plant
As long as it does not freeze, the period preceding the rise of sap is perfect for refreshing, rejuvenating and stimulating the growth of a lot of plants.
Put the roses, unless strong frosts are announced.
Slightly cut the summer flowering shrubs.
Put the glycine: it is a vigorous plant and a severe size does not scare it, on the contrary.
Put the clematis 30cm from the ground, above a pair of well-formed buds.
Put the hydrangea: but only those with large flowers.
Put the apple trees and pear trees before the first buds released.
Cut the small fruit shrubs.
Plants: maintain them
Shave the grasses, the shears or a hedge tail and recycle waste to mulch.
Remove the parts of the undesirable.
Clean the perennials and rid them of dead branches and flowers.
After the winter storms, saw the broken branches vertically and clog with graft putty to avoid the installation of mushrooms.
The vegetable garden: the newspaper
Bare or under mulch, decompact and aerect the land of the vegetable garden.
Separate the chives in place in the spade in place for several years.
It’s also time to enrich the earth with homemade compost.
Prepare the sowing and make a planning plan taking into account the right associations and the rotation of cultures.
At the end of February, plant the onions, shallots and stories.
The orchard: the preparation
Plant fruit trees as long as there is still time by avoiding gel periods.
To be fine around the roots and support the tree with a good tutor to avoid damage during large winds.
Dispel ashes, rich in potash and trace elements, at the foot of the trees to promote better fruiting.
Consolidate the mulch at the foot of the little fruit trees to finish well -protected winter.
Remember to brush the trunks covered with foam or lichen in order to stem the invasion of parasites and diseases.
The terrace: pampering your pots
Remember to water your pots in a pot, but without excess!
Continue to feed and water the birds.
Clean the geraniums that winter indoors.
