On Sunday March 23, 2025, until 6 p.m., the Montpellier Plantes Garden will host the 20th edition of “Primavera”. The Montpellier Plant and Spring Festival returns with its conferences and its stands for the defense of biodiversity. The opportunity to learn more in an exceptional setting, that of the oldest botanical garden in France.
An annual meeting for botany enthusiasts
Since 2004, the Annual Primavera meeting has gathered between 6000 and 8,000 visitors. This event will allow you to exchange with professionals on nursery stands with vegetable, aromatic, medicinal, indoor, fatty plants … This year, nearly 50 nurserymen from all southern France, 12 associations for the defense of The environment, 1 specialized publisher and 4 artists will be present.
Day conference program
• 2 p.m. : “In search of agriculture and forestry of the past: an archaeobotanic survey” by Jérôme Ros, CNRS research manager at the Institut des Sciences de l’Évolution de Montpellier
• 3 p.m. : “Faced with aridity, the power of the tree” – Moroccan and peasant inspirations for agroforestry by Geneviève Michon, ethnobotanist, Emeritic Research Director at the IRD (Research Institute for Development
• 4:00 p.m. : “Boissier de Sauvages et Linné, a thirty-year friendship” by Thierry Lavabre-Bertrand, Emeritus Director of the Jardin des Plantes.
A few words about the Montpellier plant garden
The Jardin des Plantes is the oldest flagship of the heritage of the Faculty of Medicine in Montpellier. The complementarity of these institutions stems from a common objective, knowledge, exaltation and safeguarding of the living, of the human being for the faculty of medicine, of the plant world for the botanical garden.
The Montpellier Plants Garden obtained in 2022 the “Remarkable Garden” label attributed by the Ministry of Culture which distinguishes gardens and parks, whether public or private, presenting a cultural, aesthetic, historical or botanical interest.
