The craze of craft beer has not made its way to Ireland. At Pubs de Dublin, it’s all about classics. If you ask for a pint from the bartender, you will get a pint of Guinness. Beyond black things, there are a few other Irish beers to note, and some hot drinks which are the ideal companion for a rainy day.
Ready to start sipping? Here is a guide to Irish beer and drinks. And remember: if you order at the bar, there is no need to switch the bartender. Keep your currency.
Guinness
The most famous Guinness brewing in Ireland is brewed in downtown Dublin. Often called “beer milkshake”, Guinness is known for his rich and creamy head and his chocolate flavor. Do not forget to be patient when ordering a pint – perfect Guinness takes time to pay, but it is worth waiting. Enter any Dublin pub, and you will see a lot of premises drink black stuff (and they still wait for it to settle before taking this first celestial sip).

Alternative Irish Stouts: Beamish Stout, Murphy’s Irish Stout
Smithwick’s
Smithwick’s Irish beer is even older than Guinness and the other of the most famous Irish beer and drinks. This smooth beer dates back to the 14th century and was produced in the oldest brewery in Ireland. While many of the best known Irish beers are stouts, Smithwick is the largest beer producer in the country. If you find Guinness a little heavy (especially after the first or both), go to Smithwick for something lighter, but always tasty.
Harp stock
On a sunny day in Dublin, take a table outdoors in a pub and sip a blonde of refreshing harp. This crisp beer is a light alternative to heavy Irish stouts. This smooth and light beer does not have the same story as that of Guinness or Smithwick – it has only been there since 1960 – but it is a tasty Irish alternative to other foreign blond beers.
Irish coffee
If you are in Dublin a rainy day, there is nothing more satisfactory than Irish coffee. This mixture of hot coffee, Irish whiskey and brown sugar furnished with a thick layer of cream will warm you up with more than one level. Do not go beyond concoction; Simply sip the coffee through the cream.
Irish whiskey punch (or a Hot toddy))
Another traditional drink – often appreciated when you have a sniff case – is an Irish whiskey punch or a hot toddy. Irish whiskey is mixed with hot water, brown sugar, cloves and lemon, which causes a smoking and soothing drink.
In Dublin, go local. Drink Irish beers and whiskey, eat Irish cheese and do not leave without sampling the local smoked salmon and roasted lamb (preferably with a pint of Guinness on the side).
